On June 16 the stadium «Mordovia Arena» hosted the first match of the World championship on football between of the Peru and Denmark combined teams. Before the beginning of the game Saransk was swept by waves of a real sports carnival.
About 5 thousand persons have passed the central streets of the city in the “Welcome, the Championship 2018 !” celebratory procession. Among them, there were also creative collectives in national costumes, musicians, drummers, young football players. The flags of all 32 teams that are taking part in the Football World Championship were carried next. But when many thousands of fans of the Peru national team joined the procession, it has turned into a real carnival with the Mordovian songs and the Latin American dances.
The Head of Mordovia Vladimir Volkov has joined to the procession on the Millenium Square. Sociable Peruvians have surrounded the Head of the republic. One of them, having learnt, that he was lucky enough to be photographed with «the most important person in the region», has presented to Vladimir Volkov a T-short with the national symbolic of his Native country. In return, the Head of Mordovia gave his watch to the lucky fellow.
By 19 o'clock, time of the beginning of the match, More than 40 thousand spectators have gathered at the stadium «Mordovia Arena». In total, according to the organizers, 40 thousand 502 places were occupied there. The game has ended with the score 0:1 in favor of the Denmark. The Peru national team failed to realize a penalty , and missed a few scoring chances, despite the support of tens of thousands of fellow compatriots.
